The No. 332/No. 28 began operation in 1906 and was one of the early examples of the consolidated 2-8-0 steam engine that was common in the United States at the time. There were over 33,000 engines of this kind in Minnesota by the 1940s. It was in active operation until 1964 when it was replaced by diesel locomotives.
