Lake Superior
Railroad Museum

Volunteer

Do you have a love of all things railroad related? Help us to preserve this important piece of history. Volunteers of all kinds help to keep the museum operating, as well as crews on the North Shore Scenic Railroad. In general, Wednesday is our main “volunteer day” when crews work on the model trains,in the archives and library and also in the maintenance facility on the restoration of “real trains.”

Join the crews of the trains or help out around the museum. We offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for many ages and abilities.

During the 2022 season alone, volunteers donated over 15,000 hours, and over 100,000 people visited the railroad (more than the population of Duluth)!

To get started, print out this volunteer application (PDF) and drop it off at the museum, or call the ticket office: 218-722-1273.
