Service Equipment

The most unique cars found railroads are often the maintenance/service vehicles used to keep them in tip-top shape. The Lake Superior Railroad Museum has a variety of items in the collection.

Railroad infrastructure needs regular maintenance to keep it in top condition. Railroad companies maintain engineering departments to work on infrastructure projects. Part of the department is the maintenance of way section, which had its own set of equipment for big jobs, such as cleaning up wrecks, rebuilding structures such as bridges, and plowing snow in the winter.

Discover inside the museum huge cranes as well as small people-movers, called “speeders” that you can see and touch as you tour the museum.
