In 1954, the Erie Mining Company began construction of a new taconite plant and the city of Hoyt Lakes, along with this construction they built 74 miles of private railroad from Hoyt Lakes to Taconite Harbor in Two Harbors, MN. The No. 4211 was one of the last of the streamlined diesels to be operating regular freight service on its original railroad when it retired in 2011.
