This Yellowstone class steam engine is the largest steam engine on display at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum and is part of the class of locomotives that were the largest and heaviest that were ever built. No. 227 was capable of hauling 180-190 ore cars loaded with iron ore from the mines in northern Minnesota.
