Lake Superior
Railroad Museum

Volunteer

The Lake Superior Railroad Museum is supported by a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers who spend their time in all parts of the museum. Donating thousands of hours every year, we are grateful for our volunteers and how they share their skills with the museum.

Volunteers work in:

  • The Shop – Shop volunteers help maintain the working cars and locomotives used on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, as well as restoration of historical locomotives and rolling stock.
  • Railroad Operations – Operations volunteers fulfill the roles of engineer, brakeman, and conductor for the North Shore Scenic Railroad excursions and moving equipment in the museum. Volunteering in Operations is contingent upon completing training and passing a certification test to operate trains.
  • Archives/Library – Archives volunteers assist the curatorial team with cataloging historical documents and artifacts related to railroad history.
  • Museum Docents – Docents provide education to the public about objects in the museum and railroad history.
  • The Youth Crew – Volunteers ages 10 – 17 help in a variety of departments and special projects. Click here to learn more about the LSRM Youth Crew.
