The Soo Line 2500

The Soo Line 2500-A is an example of a “demonstrator” diesel engine, an engine that locomotive builders would construct to send to railroads for them to test out in daily service. The No. 2500 was built in 1949 to be tested by the Soo Line and was used on the passenger train lines in early 1950 and purchased by the railroad that same year.
